The 2014 FIFA world cup silver medal winning captain, Lionel Messi has admitted that the whole of the Argentine team will forever regret their 0-1 defeat to Germany at the final in Brazil last summer.

Mario Gotze powered the Joachim Low's side to a 113th minute victory over the Albiceleste who qualified over the Netherlands 4-2 on penalties in the semi-final to reach the final.

Messi, who reflected on the game which lasted a hundred and twenty minutes in Brazil last year during an interview said that himself and his teammates could have sealed the victory in 90 minutes but for the chances they failed to utilise..

He said: "What can I say? It's a pity, we had so many good chances to win the game. We had the better chances and we'll regret the chances we had but couldn't score for the rest of our lives."

The Argentine captain won the Golden Ball award against all odd for his earlier performance in the tournament but was unable to replicate same when the competition got heated up in the later stages.
The Barcelona star ended the competition with four goals, two behind Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez.
