Kano Pillars will commence the defense of their league title in the new season with a trip to Owerri, as they Heartland on Sunday, March 8.
Both teams have developed a recent history of rivalry, with games involving both teams
always feisty and sometimes controversial.
One of their NPL meeting between both teams in Kano was abandoned in 2013 after fans gained access to the pitch and a fan reportedly was shot by the Police.
Both teams also met over two legs in the semifinal of the CAF Champions league in
2009, with Heartland emerging victorious, winning both legs.
The Kano-based champions will visit the Dan Anyiam Stadium for their league opener, in what has been billed as the game of the weekend, and Pillars coach, Okey Emordi has already been speaking on the draw that pitched both sides together.
He noted “It's a good match for us to start the season. At some point in the season we
will meet the big teams and it's good starting with one. We are prepared for the new league season and we will take every game as they come,”
