Stephen Keshi approached for Burkina Faso job

Out-of-Contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has revealed that the 2013 African Cup of Nations finalists, Burkina Faso has offered him a job as the manager of the Stallions.

Burkinsa Faso failed to progress from the group stage at the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equitorial Guinea, barely two years after they made to the final of the same tournament in South Africa.

The former Mali boss revealed that Burkinabe FA asked him if he is interested in the head coach role, following former coach, Paul Put's decision to quit his position this week.

Keshi, who also tutored Togo is waiting on the Nigeria Football Federation for his contract renewal, after eight months his initial deal as Super Eagles coach expired, claimed the Burkinabes have told him they want him to take charge of their national team.

"Oh yes it is true that the Burkina Fas federation contacted me for the job of their national team. But I have not been given the job as I am not the only man who they are considering for the job. There are two or three others also approached for the job," Keshi told supersport.com.

"But most of the (Burkina Faso federation) people I have spoken to, say they will like me to take up the job. But let's see how that goes since there are also others up for it."

The former Mali and Togo manager also claimed that there have been no talks between him and the Nigerian FA over renewing his contract since it ran out after the Fifa World Cup last year.

Keshi says he is in the dark about any proposed new deal from the NFF.

"To be honest, no one has told me anything about a new deal. I only read or hear them like you have just told me. But like I said I will wait and see what happens as I have to make a decision on my future as well," he said.

FBF president, Colonel Sita Sangare, announced five shortlists for the coaching role. Keshi will be considered alongside Claude Le Roy, former France coach Jacques Santini, Gernot Rohr and immediate past Senegal manager Alain Giresse.
