Burkina Faso are set to hire former Niger coach, Gernot Rohr as the new manager for the Stallions ahead of Stephen Keshi who was also shortlisted for the position.

The 2013 finalists failed to progress from the group stage at the 2015 African Cup of Nations which was staged in Equitorial Guinea and the French manager will succeed Belgian Paul Put, who was fired after a disappointing 2015 AFCON campaign in Equatorial Guinea

Keshi led Nigeria to victory in 2013 in South Africa, 19 years after he won the same tournament as a player with the Eagles.

The former Togo and Mali boss is yet to finalise a new deal with Nigeria after his initial three-year contract ended after the World Cup in Brazil last year.

After several weeks of speculations, Keshi admitted his agent has been in talks with Burkina Faso over the vacant national team top post.

"My agent is talking with them (Burkina Faso). We are all professional coaches. We cannot stay in one place and say okay a job is going to come," said the former Nigeria skipper. mtnfootball
