Golden Eaglets’ Head Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has said that the just concluded 2015 U-17 African Youth Championship, hosted by Niger has shown them their lapses, saying that Nigeria can still do well at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
Amunike’s men finished fourth behindMali, South Africa and Guinea, after losing to the Guineans for the second time in the championship.
In a post match analysis, Amuneke said it was obvious the team would need improvement and serious retool ahead of the World Cup
“Overall, the standard of the competition was okay and it has given us the chance to see our players against their peers on the continent, “he said.” I played the game and like any coach, I want to win but the manner of loss today to Guinea was not good as they were better than us in all departments.”
Be that as it may, Amuneke said he was going home with some positives since Niger 2015 was a good assessment of the players.
He said:” We came here to win but we were only able to qualify for the World Cup. I believe we can come up with a better performance in Chile.
“We would go back home and evaluate ourselves as a team and evaluate the players too but obviously, we would need better players to do well at the World Cup,” he noted. NFF
The contingent flew into the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 2.10am on Monday, with a ticket to represent Nigeria at the FIFA U-17 World Cup finals in Chile, 17 October – 8 November, 2015.
Don't you think NFF should also sack Amunike since he did not win anything... Or is Keshi the scapegoat?
