Kano Pillars coach, Sani Ahmed, has blamed D’ Tigers' loss to Tunisia at the ongoing Africa Nations Championships in Tunisia on technical indiscipline and poor defence.
The host country beat Nigeria 70-59 in their third game in the championship with D’Tigers only able to muster a win over the rampaging Tunisians in the last quarter of the game. It was not enough to ensure a win as they lost the first quarter 22-13, drew the second 17-17, lost the third quarter 20-12 and won the last quarter 17-11.
Ahmed said the Tunisians executed their plans of neutralising the Nigerian attack well while D’Tigers could not replicate same.
“The Tunisians were not really spectacular on the night,” he said.
“They were just a more defensive and more technically disciplined side than we were. The number of turnovers we had was more than theirs.
“They relied on only one or two of their players while we played more as a team than they did but our defence was not that solid hence they were able to make more two and three points than we did.”
He however expressed optimism in the team’s ability to bounce back from the defeat in the quarterfinals.
He said, “The team is well on course. If we work well on our defence, which I know they will, the team will still go all the way to the final.” punch
