Odion Ighalo Hit 10 Goals For Watford; Equals John Barnes Record

Super Eagles forward, Odion Ighalo has become the first Watford FC player to reach double figures in a Barclays Premier League season and matched the feats of a couple of Hornets legends.

The Nigerian international scored his side's winning goal at Sunderland on Saturday to become a living legend for the club and matching up with some of the club's all time greats.

The last players to score at least 10 goals in a top-flight season for Watford were Mark Falco (14), Luther Blissett (11) and John Barnes (10) under Graham Taylor in 1986/87.

Ighalo's goal in the fourth minute was the fifth time that Sunderland have conceded in the first quarter of an hour of Barclays Premier League action, a league-high.

It was also the fifth time that Ighalo has scored the opening goal of a Barclays Premier League match. Only Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy (six goals) has done this more often this season.

Watford have also benefited from a star performer at the other end where Heurelho Gomes has kept seven clean sheets this season (in 16 BPL appearances), as many as he did the last season he played with Spurs in the competition (seven in 30 matches in 2010/11).
One bright spot for Sunderland was the landmark that John O'Shea passed in the match. The Sunderland captain became the third Ireland player to reach 400 Barclays Premier League appearances after Shay Given (443) and Richard Dunne (431).
