Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Lagos State Government Assures Of Adequate Security

Lagos State Commissioner for information and strategy, Steve Ayorinde, has assured athletes and stakeholders of adequate security at the forth-coming Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on February 6.

The first full international marathon, which will be starting off at the national stadium, Surulere, has drawn attention from international athletes, and the commissioner insisted that a averagely, 40 security officers will be stationed at intervals during the race, meanwhile, medics and water stations will be every 2.5 kilometers, to care for the needs of participating athletes.

The number one citizen of Lagos, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode will be on ground to flag off the even, among notable and well-meaning Nigerians, as the event will close with entertainment from Olamide and some other artists.

"Priority has been given to security for that day and personnel from the Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Army, NSCDC will take care of lives and properties, while Lastma and men from the Road Safety Commission will control and direct traffic for the event."

"A total number of 50 supervising officers will be on ground for this event."

"The flag off will be done by the lagos state governor, and some other well-meaning Nigerians, and the race will be wrapped up with performances from Olamide and some other artist, who have signed up for the event."

"Ambulances and medical stations will be set up at intervals while water stations will be stationed at 2.5 kilometres intervals to prevent dehydration."

Meanwile, the Special Adviser to the Lagos state governor on sports, Mr. Deji Tinubu disclosed that provisions were not made for the physically challenged in this race, but hinted that the governor is planning to stage a sporting festival for them.

The issue of doping will also be tackled during the race at athletes will be tested after the race at Eko atlantic

"Physically challenged athleetes will have their own sports festival hosted by lagos state.

"Lots of people are coming from every part of Nigeria, apart from those coming from all parts of Nigeria."

"Top Nigerian athletes will be given equal preference as the foreign athletes coming for the race."

"The issue of cheating will be dealt with with transponder to monitor your race time, and heart beat. There will be massive dope testing before, during and after the race."
