Former Nigerian international and Super Eagles team coordinator, Patrick Pascal, has rated Abia Warriors Chisom Chikatara as one of the best forwards in the Nigeria professional football League presently, saying the hat-trick hero is destined for great things.
Chikatara, 21, came from the bench on Monday night to score his first hattrick for the senior national team in the second half of the game against Niger Republic at the ongoing African Nations Championship, hosted by Rwanda.
Chikatara's heroic performance earned him the man-of-the-match award for the night and the former Shooting Stars defender says he's confident the attacker has a bright future ahead of him.
“Chikatara is one of the outstanding players in the domestic league,” Pascal, who was dropped on the eve of the Eagles departure for the 1998 World Cup in France told our correspondent online from Rwanda on Tuesday.
“I’m not surprised by his performance in our first match in the tournament because Chikatara has proved to be a deadly finisher.
“Only those who don’t follow the domestic league are unaware of his talent.”
Pascal added, “We need more concentration to win our remaining group games. We must work harder ahead of each game.
“I think we have the quality to win the trophy. But we must not underestimate any opponents in competition. We have a good team.”
Nigeria face Sudan 2011 CHAN champions Tunisia in their second group match on Friday.
Meanwhile, former Abia Warriors coach Ladan Bosso says he is not surprised by Chikatara’s head-turning performance on Monday.
“What we have seen so far is just the tip of the iceberg as Chisom will inflict more pain on opponents as the CHAN progresses,” El-Kanemi manager Bosso said of his former player at Abia Warriors on supersport
