Manchester United manager was a happy man after his side stunned their long time premier league rival, Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
Wayne Rooney's 78th minute goal separated the two sides, in their English Premier League match day 22, with United rising to
5th position with 37 points, two behind Tottenham, who are currently fourth on the log.
Van Gaal expressed that beating Liverpool is a sign that better things are coming adding that they haven't given up on the title race.
"Of course when you beat Liverpool you know in advance what it means to the fans, but also in the table because our competitors also lost points. So it's a big step in a good direction. I'm very happy."
"In the first half it didn’t work because we only survived. Liverpool were better, more aggressive. But in the second half we kept the ball better and that is why we came into the match, created chances and scored through Wayne [Rooney]."
"I am very pleased with the second half because Liverpool were, in the first half, the team that dominated and we had to survive. In the second half, we showed our way of playing and we can score out of every situation."
"I am very pleased and he is very pleased also. I asked him to score here and he makes a lot of goals now in a row. I think he is a fantastic Manchester United striker for the media but he was also that in the first half of the season."
"I don’t know how many saves he did but I think it was too much. He is always playing at a certain level, which is amazing, but I was very pleased with the way we kept our score because against Newcastle United we have given a score away two times."
