Enyimba captain, Chinedu Udoji, has insisted that current Nigeria Professional Football League season champions are on track to defending the title they won last season.
The Paul Aigbogun's men won their 7th NPFL title under former manager, Kadiri Ikhana before
joining Shooting Stars Of Ibadan ahead of the coming league season this February.
Udoji, whose side kick off their 2016 campaign against Dolphins in Port Harcourt added that his side has nothing more to prove to anyone, haven't won the domestic league a record 7-times and the CAF champions league twice- in 2003 and 2004,
“We are a team that usually wins trophies,” Udoji told Goal. “We have won trophies here at home and there probably isn’t anything for us to prove again.
“We have to go in again and defend the league title we won last season and also the Federation’s Cup that we lost last year,” he said.
Speaking further, the defender added that the major target remains to win the Caf Champions League but says that won’t distract them from retaining the league title.
“As much as our major target this season is to win the Champions League, we also have to defend the league title,” he continued.
“Enyimba is a big club and people expect a lot from us and we have to prove ourselves again because our name is at stake,” he added.
The two-time African champions began their Caf Champions League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Vipers of Uganda.
