Five Things We Learnt From Ikorodu United Victory Over Lobi Stars

Ikorodu United Won their first Nigeria Professional Football League at home against Lobi Stars, beating them 1-0 on Sunday, after playing drawing their first home game to Abia Warrior last Sunday.

We couldn't but noticed these few things that made or mar the game which gave the home team

their first three points in the league.

One, we realised after playing two games that the defensive department of Ikorodu United have a kind of synergy that has neutralised the capacity of top strikers like Tony Okpotu of Lobi and Chison Chikatara of Abia Warriors from doing damage to their team.

Another thing we observed from the coach Benson Edema-led side was the poor attacking form of the Lagos team, which has not made them score more than 0ne goal each in the two games they've already played.

The third thing we saw was the low turnout of the fans in Sunday's game which was caused by the gate fee the home team placed on their tickets- popular side was billed at #500 per ticket while the covered side costed #2000 each.

And unlike their first league game which enjoyed a sizable number of crowd, the second game's turnout was very low, and this angered football fans that trooped out to cheer them.

Another thing is the level of officiating in the NPFL as our referees still officiate with fear, despite knowing the game was on pay-TV, the referee, whom we didn't get his name made a lot of glearing errors, and hoping that would not repeat itself.

Finally, Ikorodu United should understand that if they want media to cover their events, they should adequately prepare for them. The idea of putting Mozez Praise and Toyin Ibitoye in the state box and others in their so called media tribune/mix zone isn't a good one... Everyone will report the match using their various mediums.

But in all, it was a well deserved win for Ikorodu United, picking up four points in two games, and they must ensure they work on their attacking because when the chips are down in the defense line, you need the attackers to keep the team going.
