NBBF mourns Akpata

The Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF has commiserated with the basketball family in Nigeria and the African continent over the demise of renowned Nigerian born basketball coach and referee, Dele Akpata who passed away on Friday, January 29, 2016.

The federation said the late 60 years old Akpata contributed tirelessly to the development of basketball in Nigeria before his sojourn to Botswana where he continued his service to African basketball.

Akpata was named Chairman of Botswana Coaches Association in 2012 and served as Secretary General of the Confederation of University and College Sport – Zone 6 from 2006 to 2015. He was also a lecturer at the Department of Physical Education, Health and Recreation at the University of Botswana, where he also served as Director of Recreation and Culture.

Stressing that late Akpata will be missed the basketball family, the NBBF said ,”He was a consummate university administrator and teacher and through his exemplary hard work and humility, he projected Nigeria's image positively”.
