The Russian Football Federation have endorsed the current UEFA general secretary, Gianni Infantino to become the next FIFA president.
This information was disclosed by the Russian Sports Minister, Vitaly Mutko, after a meeting between the two in Moscow according to TASS news agency.
The world football governing body will be voting for Sepp Blatter's successor come February 26, and Gianni Infantino and Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan are the strongest contenders of the five candidates eligible for the 2016 elections in Switzerland.
Other candidates are Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the president of the Asian Football Confederation since 2 May 2013, Jérôme Champagne, a French diplomat and became a consultant in international football, and serving as an executive at FIFA from 1999 to 2010.
The last candidate, Tokyo Sexwale is a South African businessman, politician, and an anti-apartheid activist, meanwhile, Mitchel Platini has been banned for eight years and will not be able to contest in the forthcoming elections.
Swiss football administrator of Italian origin. He has been the general secretary of UEFA since 2009 and holds both Swiss and Italian nationality.
