AFCON Update: Court Sacks Egyptian FA Two Days To Nigerian Game

The Egyptian Football Association board has been dissolved barely 48 hours into Tuesday's 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria between Egypt and Nigeria.

The Egyptian court that presided over the case on Sunday said it suspected rigging in the 2012 elections that installed the members of the federation's board.

The case, which was filed by the president of the second division football team Bani Ebeid, Hermas Radwan dates back to 2013, and the court has said that verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

The regular four-year elections of a new board are set to take place in September 2016.

The current Executive Director of the Board Tharwat Sweilam is expected to direct  the association till September.

Gamal Allam, prisedent of EFA said on TV today: "In this time we think only of the match against Nigeria and we do not want anything that could distract the team."

He explained that he would discuss the matter with legal affairs at the Football Association tomorrow or next Tuesday to learn about the verdict and the possibility to respond to it by legal means.

Allam stressed that in any case, he has not thought about resorting to FIFA so as not to introduce Egyptian football to the risk of suspension.

Egypt will host Nigeria in Tuesday's Afcon qualifier as both sides need to win to keep hopes alive after Chad withdrew from the campaign on Sunday. Goal
