AFCON Update: Leon Balogun Doubtful For Egypt Clash

Mainz 05 defender, Leon Balogun, is doubtful for the African Cup of Nations qulaifiers game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The three time African champions will welcome the seven time AFCON champions to the Kaduna

stadium this Friday, in a bid to revive their chances to reach the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

Egypt currently lead the group with two points and four goals difference, as Nigeria are second after beating Chad 2-0 in Kaduna and playing a goalless draw with Tanzania in Dar Es Salam last September.

Balogun was not a part of the bundesliga team that played a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen after picking up a muscular injury.

"Leon #Balogun has picked up a muscular injury and didn't travel to Bremen. Get well soon," the club announced via its twitter handle on Saturday.

He will join Kenneth Omeruo, who has also been confirmed out of the game due to injury, and that will give coach Samson Siasia headache as the possible pairs in defense are will be absent.

The return leg will take place at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria four days later.
