Egypt international, Mohamed Elneny, has insisted that Arsenal are still in the title race despite falling nine points behind league leaders, Leicester City.
The defensive midfielder, who has been called up for his country's crunchy clash against Nigeria the only goal for the premier league side in their 3-1 loss at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night.
Arsene Wenger's men succumbed to a 5-1 aggregate loss in the UCL as they lost 2-0 at home a fortnight ago.
The strike made the 23-year-old midfielder just the third Egypt international to score in the Champions League, and the fifth African player in history to score against Barcelona in the competition.
“We did what we could today. Sure, we lost, but we tried our best. We were playing against a big team,” Elneny told beIN Sports after the match.
“We’re still up for the league. We need to focus. We still have nine games to go and God willing we can do it.
“We know it’s a big stadium and a great stadium too but I’m happy with my performance today, but not that happy about the result. I knew it’d be hard, but there is no ‘hard’ in football.”
The Gunners are placed at number three on the log with 52 points from 29 matches and will now focus on Everton this coming Saturday. Africanfootball
