Former Super Eagles coach, Clemence Westerhof, has disclosed he has the magic to bring back the glory days of the Nigerian national team.
The Dutchman helped Nigeria to her second African Cup of Nations title in Tunisia in 1994, and also qualified Nigeria for her maiden world cup, where they eventually ranked 5th in the world, the highest rank an African country has attained in the history of FIFA ranking.
Westerhof’s last engagement in Nigeria was with the Kwara Football Academy but he wants a return to the land where he made his name spending six years on the Super Eagles job.
"Nigeria need a strong person with the required experience to bring them out of the negative position they are in right now,” Westerhof recently said.
"Nigeria is a big country and the national team should be in the top 10 in Fifa's world rankings, not the 67th position they currently occupy.
"For 22 years I have watched everything I built slowly collapse and all I need is a chance to fix the national team again.
"With due respect to Sunday Oliseh, he was a good player but the job of managing Nigeria is not for an inexperienced person and that is the reason things never worked out.
"I know what Nigeria lacks and needs to be respected in the world again. "
Nigeria won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013 but failed to defend her crown two years later in Equatorial Guinea which Ivory Coast won.
The Super Eagles won’t feature at Gabon 2017 after losing the race for the sole ticket in Group G of the 2017 Afcon qualifiers to seven-time champions Egypt.
Westerhof feels he is the man to sort out Nigeria’s dwindling fortunes as he insists he has unfinished business with the Super Eagles.
"I left Nigeria as number five in the world and now I want to do it again, this is my second country and what I accomplished then is possible again," the Dutchman said.
"Just give me the Super Eagles again and watch what we can all achieve together." Supersport
