Newly appointed Chair-person of the FCT Swimming Association, Mrs. Maryam Damisa has expressed the belief that swimming athletes in FCT would earnestly begin to represent Nigeria in international tournaments as soon as the new swimming board hit the ground running in Abuja.
Mrs, Damisa stated that in a long while, Nigeria has not done well in swimming at the global stage
considering her massive endowments but the FCT swimming association remains poised in its efforts to bring back the glory days in the sport.
She was however quick to note that swimming in Nigeria is plague with dearth of facilities and absence of developmental programmes which can be traced to poor administrative system.
Speaking further, Mrs. Damisa highlighted one of the cardinal agenda of FCT swimming association, which is to provide swimmers with more competitions that could further help them improve their skills.
According to her, swimming is healthy recreational sport, especially for tropical climate as Nigeria, where the temperature is usually hot.
