Federation Cup: Rangers, Sunshine Out; Akwa Through To Next Stage

Federation Cup defending champions, Akwa United have progressed to the next round of the championship after beating fellow Nigeria Professional Football League side, Sunshine Stars 8-7 on penalties at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

Both sides failed to find the back of the net in the normal proceedings of the game which was extended into penalties, and the Promise Keepers are one step closer to reclaiming the title they won in Lagos last year.

Meanwhile in Abuja, Nigeria National League side, Crown FC stunned NPFL side, Rangers Football club, by beating the Imama Amapakabo's men 2-1 in Abuja.

Crown took the lead through Peter Michael, who opened scoring in the 28th minute of the game at
the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, but Godwin Aguda equalised for the Coal City side in the 65th minute of the game.

Crown regained leaders via second-half substitute, Bello Owello scoring the winner for the Oshogbo club after Peter Michael scored the game’s opener in 28th minute at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

Godwin, who scored Rangers only goal said that they underrated their NNL side, adding that they also failed to convert all the chances they created.

"We underrated Crown from the beginning and we opened up ourselves too much in defence."

"We also failed to take the chances that came our way at the other end."

"It was a strange game and we just did not play to our usual level. We were not organised enough."

"It is a disappointing day for all fans of our great club, but right now we just have to lift ourselves up and concentrate on the league,"

Enugu Rangers are currently in second place on the NPFL standings.
