Sydney 2000 Olympics gold medalist, Daniel Igali, has fired a warning shot at the National Sports Ministry not to put his athletes under pressure of winning medals in next month's Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
The Nigeria Wrestling Federation president said this on a radio program on Wednesday, saying that his athlete will go to Brazil and give their best, and medals come out of it, it is an added advantage.
He said that Nigeria always want to win medals at events and championships with little or no preparations towards such championships.
Igali said the Wrestling team, that are currently in Spain for Olympics preparations will return to the country on Thursday, and insisted that no one will put the athletes under pressure of winning medals at the games in August.
"You don't win medals by just talking about it, but with much preparations towards the game."
"No one can put me under any pressure, most especially when they have done virtually nothing to put the team in shape."
"I will really like to reserve my comments at the moments but we are returning from Madrid to nigeria tomorrow."
The 42-year old Bayelsa Born fighter, also said his team will be cautious of Zika virus, but that it will never scare them from displaying their talents to the fullest.
He also said that Zika is nothing beside Malaria that we all live with on daily basis.
"We live with malaria everyday, so Zika virus isn't as bad as malaria, and it doesn't mean that we won't be cautious."
"The athletes know what they are supposed to eat and what they should avoid at this point to avoid doping issues."
"I don't have any target for my wrestlers but they have been told to go out there and enjoy themselves, and no one will put them under pressure."
"The only target I have for them, they have met, to know their opponents which they have done, but I'm not sure of coming back with any medal from wrestling."
