Shooting Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, has admitted that his side failed to live up to expectation when they clash against fellow premier league outfit, Rivers United in the Federation Cup round of 32 on Wednesday.
The Oluyole Warriors were edged out 3-2 on penalties after the normal regulation time had ended in a
draw in a battle of the NPFL sides, but the former Giwa coach said he will now concentrate of avoiding relegation in the ongoing Nigerian topflight.
"They showed more maturity than us in the penalty shootout but now, we have to concentrate on avoiding relegation in the (Nigeria Professional Football League)," Ogunbote said after the cup tie.
"It was keenly-contested but we need to score. We have one clear chance and if we had scored, it would have made the difference."
"These things however happen in football and there is nothing you can do."
Meanwhile, Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma, said he wasn't surprised at the performance of the two teams, saying they both go a long way in the league.
Eguma also confirmed that his side had practiced penalty kicks in their training sessions before the game, and it was their saving grace for the night.
"It was a keenly contested game. The two teams know themselves inside out and we expected a tough game," he said.
"It was a good game but we practiced penalty kicks and that’s why we were almost perfect with our spot kicks.
