Barcelona midfielder, Boluwatife Balogun, has backed the Nigerian U-20 national team to qualify for this summer’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Balogun, who could not represent Nigeria at the U-17 world championship in Dubai two years ago due to his club commitments has said that the Manu Garba-led team has got what it takes to take the world by surprise.

The 18-year old player said that he will prefer to play for the Flying Eagles, but that nobody from the U-20 team has contacted him at all.

”Of course, the Flying Eagles will qualify for the World Cup, the team possesses the qualities,” Balogun said to sl10.ng.

”I have been following the team lately, and there are star players there, mostly from the previous U- 17 squad, which triumphed in the United Arab Emirates two years ago.

”I have not yet had any contact with the U- 20 national team coaches, but I would prefer to play for the team than the U-23 squad.

”Christian Pyagbara is my favorite player in the squad. I think he’ll catch the eye during the African Youth Championship.”

The Nigerian-born star can also commit his future to both France and Holland apart from Nigeria at the national level, and the youngster has spent the last two years playing for the youth teams of Barcelona.
