The Super Eagles of Nigeria have kicked off their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a win over their Chadian counterpart in Kaduna on Saturday.
The coach Stephen Keshi-led side, who failed to defend the Afcon title they won in South Africa in 2013 defeated Chad 2-0 and the Nigeria's senior national team are three points up in their group, which has Egypt and Tanzania.
Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Faud Salami broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute with a long range shot which went to the top of the net and rattled the Le Sao of Chad, who had been so comfortable since the game kicked off.
Newly promoted English Premier League Watford Fc player, Odion Ighalo converted a spot kick in the 80th minute in their campaign kickoff at the Kaduna stadium, while SS Lazio midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi was given a straight red card for a match misconduct in the 79th minute and he will now miss up to two to three games.
The game between Egypt and Tanzania is later on Sunday to complete the match day 1 of the 2017 Afcon qualifiers, to know who leads with what number of points, and who begins to gather points to go through in the group.
