Chelsea will teach Sydney FC to respect the champions- Mikel

Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has vowed that Chelsea will teach A-League side, Sydney FC lessons and them that they are the Premier League champions.

Mikel, who was snubbed by the Super Eagles coach ahead of the African cup of Nations qualifiers against Chad in Nigeria in mid-June is on end-of-season tour with the Blues in Australia.

Jose Mourinho’s side will take on their Australian opponents Down Under on Tuesday night at the ANZ Stadium as part of the Blues’ post-season tour.

Around 10,000 fans watched Chelsea train on Monday and an estimate of 83,000 spectators are expected to fill the ground for the friendly against Sydney, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

“We’re here to play well and show why we’re the champions,” Mikel told Chelsea’s official website. “We’re used to big crowds and good atmospheres, so we’re looking forward to that and it was nice to see so many fans come to watch us training as well.

“So far it’s been a good trip. I’m feeling a little jet lag since we arrived in Sydney, so I’ve been resting and sleeping a lot, but it will be a great game. Sydney had a good game against Spurs and will want to do even better against us.” footballlive
