Flying Eagles Coach, Manu Garba has said that he was disappointed at Kelechi Iheanacho's fitness after an unimpressive performance against Brazil at the ongoing FIFA U-20 world cup in New Zealand.
Iheanacho, alongside Musa Yahaya and Isaac Success started the match against the South Americans in their group opener, which the African Champions lost 4-2, and since then he sat more on the bench till the Manu Garba's men were ousted by Germany in the second round of the championship.
Garba, who led the Flying Eagles to win the seventh African Youth Championship earlier this year said that the forward wasn't on the same level with the rest of the players having been away from the side for the "a long time".
The former national U-17 coach also explained that no good coach changes a winning team.
"When we played Kelechi Iheanacho in the first match he wasn’t very confident with his marking and coupled with that we had a small problem in the Midfield."
"He had not been with the team for long and so it affected communication with the other players,’ Manu Garba said."
"We rejigged the team and you’ll remember that new side defeated North Korea and Hungary. And no Coach will necessarily change a winning team." footballlive
