The maiden edition of the Kenneth Minimah National Men and Women Open Boxing Championship has been scheduled to hold from June 28 to July 4 at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Complex, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
This was said by the Nigeria Boxing Federation’s Secretary General, Olusola Luke, after revealing that all is now set for the boxing championship, adding that the men will fight in 10 different categories, while only six weight divisions will feature in the women category. These include 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg weight class.
The Secretary General revealed that the Championship will be opened to all the states of the Federation, including the Federal capital Territory, Abuja and all affiliated Boxing Clubs, and advised that interested states are to forward the list of 10 male boxers in various weight categories and their best six female fighters for the women event.
This championship also serve as a platform to try boxers for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville.
Meanwhile, the President of the Federation, Kenneth Minimah, has warned states to take the Championship seriously, saying that only boxers that featured in the tournament would be selected for the All Africa Games. OyoSport News
