Former Nigerian international, Sani Kaita has said that beating the le Sao of Chad in 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday was all that was required of the Super Eagles.
Nigeria beat Chad 2-0 in last Saturday's Gabon 2017 Afcon qualifiers in Kaduna last Saturday and Kaita has told Nigerians praise the performance of the senior national team despite a hard earned 2-0 home win over Chad.
Goals from Warri Wolves Gbolahan Salami and Watford's Odion Jude Ighalo gave the 2013 African champions the all important three points in the group.
He said that judging the way in which the team started the 2015 campaign then as African champions when they were beaten 3-2 by Congo, it was imperative for the players to be apprehensive and that the fact they were expecting a win definitely put the team under pressure throughout the match.
The FC Ifeanyi Ubah new acquisition begged Nigerians not to crucify the Eagles based on the overall performance against Chad but he predicted that the team would get better by the time they face their next foes - Tanzania in September.
“It is very easy to apportion blame because the Eagles didn’t play up what we expected but something is certain, getting the maximum points was the main priority and they got this with two goals to their credit,” Kaita told Goal.
"I am certain that they will improve in their next game. We should not be too fast to condemn what belongs to us. The Eagles must be nurtured and praised for getting a win against Chad."
