Vincent Enyeama plans a glorious Super Eagles exit in 2017

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama has revealed that he will end his international career after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper who becomes the second Eagle to reach the 100 caps mark after former captain, Joseph Yobo said that he hopes to end his national team career winning the next edition of the continental championship.

Enyeama made his debut for the national team against Kenya in May 2002 and since then has made his mark with the team, winning an Afcon title in 2013, as well as Goal player of the year in 2014.

The Lille goalkeeper was beaten by Ivory Coast midfielder, Yaya Toure to win the 2014 African Footballer of the year in January despite his effort in helping Nigeria clinch their third Afcon title in South Africa.

"It's impossible to play football forever and the next tournament in Gabon will be my last one," Enyeama toldBBC Sport.

"I've played in two finals, lost in 2004, won in 2013 and to win in 2017 is how I hope to be remembered.

"But more significantly we must not get ahead of ourselves because we need to qualify first."

With the exclusion of the three-time African champions in the last edition, the former Enyimba goalkeeper admits that the team must do all they can to atone for the sin of failing to defend their title in Equitorial Guinea.

Nigeria hosts Chad in Kaduna on Saturday, and he insists the Eagles must pacify their displeased supporters by tackling the challenge posed by Emmanuel Tregoat’s men with care.

"You can never underestimate any opponent in African football and we must treat Chad like other top oppositions in world football," he continued.

"Some of our fans are still upset and the only way to earn back their respect is to give them a reason to believe again.

"We are all determined to qualify for the Nations Cup, and after the tournament I can say a proper goodbye.

"It crossed my mind to leave after the World Cup in Brazil but crucially now I want to leave on a high by going all the way with my country on a successful ride,” he concluded. Goal
