Siasia Assure Nigerians Of Victory Over Congo

The coach of Nigeria’s Under-23 team, Samson Siasia, has assured Nigerians that his side will beat Congo in Rio 2016 Olympic qualifiers on Sunday.

The Dream Team VI have confirmed their readiness to battle the Central African side in Sunday's African Under-23 championship final round, first leg qualifier at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Siasia insists that he has worked on his side's lack of confidence in goal which has made them struggled in their last few games.

“I’m very confident that Nigerians who will troop out enmasse to see our match on Sunday will see one of the best displays ever by the Dream Team.

“As a team my boys have always created chances but our greatest problem has been to convert these chances to goals.

“We have been doing a lot of work in this critical area and if what I have seen in training of recent is anything to go by then I can assure Nigerians that these boys will make them proud by scoring enough goals against the Congolese come Sunday,” said Siasia to NFF official website, www.thenff.com.

Siasia said the non-availability of the overseas players is not a problem as the match is qualifier for a continental competition and not on the Fifa calendar.

“The clubs in Europe and elsewhere are not obliged to release these players, that was why we concentrated our efforts in building the team around home-based professionals,” said Siasia.

The team, however, has the services of former junior international striker, Umar Aminu, who was able to convince his club to release him for the game.

The winner of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the eight-team African championship tourney in Senegal that will see the topmost three teams qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
