Nigeria Beat Mali 2-0 To Clinch 5th FIFA U17 World Title In Chile

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have set a new FIFA U-17 records after beating Mali 2-0 in the final of the 2015 edition in Chile on Sunday night.

Nigeria became the only country to have won the championship a record five times as they retained the FIFA U-17 World Cup they won two years ago at the United Arab Emirates.

Victor Osimhen also set new FIFA U17 records after scoring his tenth goal of the tournament, smashing the previous one by Florent Sinama Pongolle in 2001 and Souleymane Coulibaly ten years later.

The defending champions doubled their advantage few minutes later, with Bamgboye bursting down the Nigerian left before smashing a powerful effort at goal, Diarra standing little chance.

The Malian goalkeeper, Samuel Diarra denied Nigeria an early lead in the game after saving Osinachi Ebere penalty kick, following Chato's handling of the ball in the 18 yard box but, Ebere saw his low effort saved brilliantly by Diarra, the No17's follow up header hit the bar before a third bite of the cherry was blocked by the Malian defence.

The Emmanuel Amuneke's wards came into the second half with more purpose, the coach's words clearly working their magic on the Nigerian youngsters.

Osimhen shrugged off the challenge of Mamadou Fofana before hitting a wonderful dipping half volley towards goal, which Diarra spectacularly saved. Udochukwu Anumudu then smashed a thunderous effort at goal, which rebounded back off the crossbar and was cleared away.

The Golden Eaglets captain, Kelechi Nwakali won the tournament's  Most Valuable Player while Victor Osimhen was crowned the second Best Player and Top Scorer with ten goals.
