The media office of the Nigeria U23 national team, Timi Ebikagboro, has confirmed that the team has boarded Delta airline enroute Manaus, the venue for the Dream Team VI first game against Japan in the early hours of Friday.
The Nigerian U23 team has been stranded for multiple days in Atlanta, the city where the first Dream Team picked the first and only Olympic Gold 20 years ago.
Samson Siasia and his men were initially scheduled to jet out of America for Brazil on Tuesday, but were disappointed as the charter flight meant to airlift them rejected them due to financial complications, after which an alternative arrangement was reached for the players to leave on Wednesday, but another issue came up.
The issue was finally resolved when the Federal Government of Nigeria intervened by hiring a Delta Airlines All-VIP jet to take the players and crew on their seven-hour flight to the Amazon city of Manaus.
Nigeria will be battling the Samurai Blues on Friday by 2: AM.
