Oshonaike; Offiong Crash Out Of Rio Olympics Women's Table Tennis Event

The duo of Nigeria's table tennis representatives, Funke Oshonaike and Offiong Edem, have crashed out of the women's table tennis event at the ongoing Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.

Oshonaike, the team Nigeria assistant captain and flag bearer to the 2016 Games was beaten by
Puerto Rico's Adriana Diaz 4-2, as Edem was lost 4-1 to Belarusia's Victoria Pavlovich.

Oshonaike reached the first round of the event after overpowering  Mariana Sahakian of Lebanon 4-3 in the play offs of the events, meanwhile Offiong cruised over 15-year old Sally Yee of the Fiji Islands.

But the six-time Olympian, Oshonaike, who would have thought of doing better than she did at London 2012, would have no chance to do that, as she bowed out at this stage of the competition. She would have hoped for a better outing in Rio to end her illustrious career.

Meanwhile other African representatives were also shown the door, as the Egyptian duo of Dina Meshref and Nadeen El-Dawlatly lost to Thailand’s Nanthana Komwony and Hungary’s Petra Lovas by 4-1 and 4-0 respectively. Congo’s Xing Han was also unlucky, losing 4-3 to Thailand’s Suthasini Sawettabut
