New Manchester City, Wilfried Bony struck twice as the Elephants of Ivory Coast defeated the FIFA's number African footballing nation on Sunday.

Bony got a brace in what looked like their best performance so far since the start of the championship on January 17, while AS Roma forward, Gervinho, who missed two games due to the red card he got in his side's first game returned and scored the third goal while Algeria returned one but was not enough to inspire the North African for a come-back.

The game ended 3-1 in favour of the Elephants and due to face Congo DR in their Semi-Final game which commences on Thursday after the team took a break.

Meanwhile, Herve Renard has said that he would have brought Dideir Drogba except that he has chosen retire from the international football.

Ghana were confident going into the game against Guinea, who qualified for the last eight of the championship through the CAF lots.

The Avram Grant side scored two goals in the first half before completing their three nil victory in the 61st minute into the game via Kwesi Appiah.

Ghana will now face the host country, Equitorial Guinea, who came from behind to defeat Tunisia 2-1 in their last eight game.

Congo DR were resilient on Saturday night after first falling 0-2 down to Congo, but with their never-say-die spirit, they turned their lot around and have progressed to the last four of the tournament.

Algeria, were favourites of the tournament but with the recent result against Ivory Coast, it seems that trophies are not won on face of newspaper or due to FIFA rankings.

The title now lies within the four remaining countries in Equitorial Guinea, who will have the full support of their home fans when they face Ghana in their semi final clash.

Nigeria, who are the defending champions and fail to qualify to defend their championship will now relinquish their title as soon as a new champion emerge come February 10
