Flying Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has insisted that winning the African Youth Championship for Nigeria is more important to him than the highest goal scorer award of the tournament.
Taiwo Awoniyi won the Man of the match on Sunday courtesy of his brace against Senegal in the opening Group A game which ended 3-1 in favour of the nation's U-23 team.
“Top scorer of the tournament? No, we are a team and we are here to win for Nigeria,” said the player of Imperial Football Academy.
“We give glory to God and we will keep working hard to achieve our targets.”
Awoniyi further explained that God and hard work has been their key, saying they will continue in it.
Meanwhile, Flying Eagles stars Ifeanyi Matthew and goalkeeper Dele Alampasu were two of the players tested for drugs after Sunday’s match.
Senegal players tested were goalkeeper Seydou Sy and Sidy Sarr, who scored his team’s goal against Nigeria. NFF
