Olympic Qualifiers: Nigeria Beat Congo 2-1

Two goals from Junior Ajayi gave the Nigeria's U-23 national team a 2-1 lead over the the Congolese national U-23 national team in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

The Dream Team VI were unable to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of the game with the team losing valuable chances in the first half but 3 minutes into the second half, Ajayi beat Congo Goalkeeper, Chrisopher, after failing to get a good grip of the ball from a pull-out in the 48th minute.

The former Shooting Stars player headed his second for the team from an inviting Daniel Etor cross six minutes later.

In the 66th minute, Claude Le Roy's men pulled one back out of many chances created and Nkoukou Miose slammed in off a rebound from goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel.

Siasia’s boys won their two away matches in the qualifying race for the All-Africa Games – for which they have qualified. They pounded Gabon 4-1 in Libreville and defeated Zambia 2-0 in Lusaka, and on the evidence of strength-in-depth, should be understandably confident going to Pointe Noire on August 2.

Yet, Siasia and his assistants have work to do in letting the players know that a match does not end until the referee’s final blast of the whistle. Surely, they over –celebrated after the second goal, stopped playing and allowed the Congolese into the game.
