Warning: Fashanu Tells Oliseh To Be Dynamic In His Player Selection

Former England international, John Fashanu, has disclosed that Sunday Oliseh's to bring top players to the national team is a great one, but urged the former skipper to be dynamic in his player selection.

The former Nigerian international was unveiled on Wednesday, to succeed his former teammate, Stephen Keshi as the new Super Eagles coach.

Fashanu, who never played for Nigeria told Oliseh not to implement his plan of overlooking players who are not playing in the top leagues as he was widely quoted in the media.

Former Wimbledon of England striker explained that some of Nigeria's best players are currently playing in unheralded leagues across the world. And he wants Oliseh give opportunities to good players who are not on the books of big European clubs.

"I like Oliseh, yes I like him. He has proved to be a gentleman and a football technocrat," Fashanu told Coompletesportsnigeria.com.

"However, the invitation of players to the team is one area I would like him to be tactful about.

"The best players are not always playing for big clubs like Manchester United or Real Madrid. Some of your best players could be playing at lowly clubs.

"I played over 2,000 games for Wimbledon, a supposed small team in England and won the FA Cup with them in 1988 when we defeated almighty Liverpool in the final," Fashanu remarked with a tone of fulfilment.

"Stephen Keshi did well, just that he left on bad terms. Now the Keshi era is over.

"For me, Oliseh saying that he is not the Messiah of Nigerian football is wrong. You have to believe you're one to succeed.  Nigerians believe in him," he reiterated..

Speaking further about giving chances to players to prove their mettle, Fashanu spared a thought for players in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

"Another thing Oliseh must ensure is giving opportunities to some of the home-based players because really the difference between these guys in the Nigeria Premier League and those abroad is opportunity," he concluded.

New Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, was handed a three-year contract by the Nigeria Football Federation. Completesport
