“We thought Segun Odegbami Had Got Other Nominations Allready- NFF President

The Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick, claimed that he thought former Nigerian international, Segun Odegbami had got the backing of other Football Associations in Africa to make him eligible for next February's FIFA presidential elections.

Odegbami, who showed interest in succeeding Sepp Blatter had his ambition cut short when he couldn't get upto five FA nominations for him before the deadline which lapsed this week.

Meanwhile, the 'mathematical',as he's findly called by many believed his ambition was sabotaged by fellow Nigerians, who preferred former Abia State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu to run for world football’s top post.

“We thought he had the other nominations and ours was just the icing on the cake,” he said.

“I did my best as president of the Nigeria Football Federation. We did our human extreme best but other FAs were already committed to other candidates.”

Pinnick also dismissed suggestions that he may have been slowed down by another interest group from Nigeria.

“I can’t be arm twisted. What happened just happened,” he maintained. Africanfootball
