Opinion: What Is Wrong With Deji Tinubu And Femi Sokoya?

The Asoju Oba Molade Okoya-Thomas Table Tennis championship has come and gone, but it was difficult for some of us at the final of the event not to have noticed that there seems to be some kind of problem between the Lagos State sports Commission chairman, Deji Tinubu and the chairman of the Lagos State Table Tennis Association, Femi Sokoya as both were seated miles apart on Friday.

One would have expected that Mr. Sokoya, being the chairman of the Lagos Table Tennis Association, would be sitting on the high table, but, it was surprising to me and some of my colleagues to see him sit with other invited guests throughout his stay during the final of the competition.

We were unable to decipher the issue(s) between the pair, but it is crystal clear that there's a kind of power tussle between the duo, whose job descriptions are clearly defined, and are distinctively different.

Not only was Mr. Sokoya missing at the high table, he was also conspicuously missing during the presentation of cash and other prizes to the winners of the 47th edition of the Asoju Oba Molade Thomas-Okoya championship.

We are urging the parties involved to either fix the problem secretly, if there was one, or involve a much higher authority to ensure the progress of both the Lagos state sports commission and the Lagos state table tennis federation are not tampered with.
