CHAN 2016: Nigeria Must Prepare For Tougher Opposition- Tijani Babangida

Special assistant to the Super Eagles coach, Tijani Babangida has predicted stiff opposition for the Nigerian side as they battle the Menas of Niger in the Second group C game at the ongoing 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

The Nigerian side won bronze medal in the 2014 edition in South Africa after bowing out to the
Black Stars on penalties.

The 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medalist said that the current crop of players have what it takes to go beyond the quarter final stage, adding that they will face a tougher opposition than in the previous tournament.

“Before 2014 when we won bronze, we could not even qualify for the competition, but I believe we will be involved in it always as from now on,” he told Complete Sports.

“I expect stiff opposition from our opponents this year. The boys are keen to fight irrespective of the team we play against even though we know it will be a tough competition.

“I speak with the team regularly. I’ve seen tremendous improvements in the performance of the boys,” he concluded.
