Super Eagles B forward, Tunde Adeniji, who will be leading Nigeria's attack against Nigeria on Monday evening has insisted that he will not be chasing personal glory at the 2016 African Nations Championship.
The Sunshine Stars forward ended last NPFL season with 15 goals, 2 goals behind Warri Wolves Gbolahan Salami, and he has assured that he will work hard with the team to make Nigeria proud at the once-in-two years tournament, currently going on in Rwanda.
“Putting personal interest first before the country is selfishness and foolishness,” Adeniji told Goal.
“I’m more about winning as a team – which is very important to me, my colleagues and the technical crew.
“I know all eyes on me to challenge for the top scorer’s award judging by my outing last season with Sunshine Stars, but I am not after that.”
“Doing that will only result to putting myself under unnecessary pressure and it would be bad if I don’t justify my inclusion in the team.”
The Super Eagles face Niger Republic in their opening Group C fixture at the Stade Régional Nyamirambo and Adeniji claims the team is good to go.
“Everyone is good to go and we are more than motivated to make the country proud,” he continued.
“We won’t promise to win by any margin but our target will be to go for the maximum points then prepare to face Tunisia and Guinea.
“Our dream is to emerge as African Champions and we won’t rest on our oars until we see that is achieved,” he concluded. Goal
