Sports minister, Solomon Dalung, has blamed the under development of Nigerian football on corruption, saying that exposing corrupt practices in Nigeria won't stop foreign investors.
He blamed corruption and insincerity of leadership for the poor patronage of foreign investors, assuring the public of always upholding virtues of accountability an transparency.
"I must also disagreed with those who are claiming that exposure of corruption in the [football] system will drive away foreign investors," said Dalung.
"To me, corruption is largely responsible for the underdevelopment of the country and that the Buhari-led government is firmly committed to exposure of and fight against corruption.
"This government is not going to lose sleep over accusation that exposure of corruption will drive away foreign investors and that the nation should not wash its dirty linen in public.
"As far as the fight against corruption is concerned, there is no going back. We shall provide detergents wherever we find dirty linen.
Dalung further clarified his claim of been shortchanged as government delegate to the Afcon 2002 tournament in Mali blaming the fraudulent act on the then officials of the sports ministry. He however, absolved the NFF.
"I want to use the opportunity to put the record straight that i stood by my statement that I was once shortchanged by Ministry officials in the payment of his entitlement as a government delegate to an international tournament.
"I never accused the NFF of being involved or responsible because I know that payment of entitlement for government functionaries is not part of their functions," he concluded.
