Çaykur Rizespor defender, Godfrey Oboabona, has insisted that Nigeria are not inferior to Egypt, despite placing second to the Pharaohs on the group table.
The Super Eagles host seven-time African champions Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on March
25 for their make or break 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier before traveling to Alexandria for the return leg four days later.
However, the Çaykur Rizespor defence lynchpin is in no doubt that the Super Eagles will once again show why they are a force to be reckoned with in football when the Pharaohs visit Kaduna.
“Sentiments apart, Nigeria are still a strong force in African football,” Oboabona told Goal
“Placing second behind Egypt does not imply that we are pushovers. You should not forget that the north African side have failed to appear at the last three [Africa] Cup of Nations. Aside from this, we [Super Eagles] are very strong at home.
“If we put up a great performance and play as a team, no team in Africa can stop us. With respect to Egypt, they are a solid team but we know what is at stake and anything short of victory would be unacceptable by Nigerians.
“Our experience from previous matches against north Africans will help us because we have a history against Egypt and we won’t let them hinder our progress,” he concluded.
