After saving Enyimba's blushes in Sousse, goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai has attributed his side's victory over Etoile du Sahel to God.
The two time African champions beat their Tunisian host 4-3 on penalties after playing 3-3 in two legs of the CAF championship.
Etoile took the lead on Wednesday night through Hamza Lahmar's well taken set piece with just
three minutes to half time, while Diego Acosta's brace in the 61st and ten minutes later leveled scores at 3-0 on the night but 3-3 on aggregate.
Theophilus Afelokhai who has won four NPFL trophies at Kano Pillars, produced some amazing saves during the penalty shoot-out.
"When God says yes who can say no. it was a defining moment and only the best performances can save the day," Afelokhai told Goal.
"The God factor was evident in the match. Everything was thrown at us but God's Grace was enough to see us through."
It looked as though it was the end of the road when Mfon Udoh who is the competition's high goal scorer at the time, and Christian Pyagbara failed to score. However, Theophilus Afelokhai's gallant saves during the penalty shoot-out helped secure a 4-3 win.
Enyimba FC have now broken the four years jinx of no Nigerian club to have played in any of Caf club competition since 2012.
