Laspotech Beat NIJ 2-0 In A Novelty Game

By Chikwendu Daniel

As part of the activities marking the 22nd convocation anniversary of the Lagos State Polytechnic,
the institution's football team beat their counterpart from Nigerian Institute of Journalism 2-0 in a novelty game played on Thursday.

The home team got an early goal through Adedayo Adebowale after converting a penalty kick in the first half while Ibrahim Animashaun doubled his side's lead in the second half.

Efforts by the pen pushers team of NIJ to equalise were dashed off, as Charles Odidika and Obatobi Bada lost chances they could have easily converted in the first half of the game.

Speaking at end of the match, Rector of the Polytechnic, Samuel Sogunro, expressed his happiness with victory of his team.

"Am glad for the outcome of the game, am also proud of my boys, they did their best in the match, but their best is not enough as they need to put in more efforts next time"

However, he also advocated for a rematch between the teams as to make them get involved with each other.

In their own reaction, a team member of the Pen pusher, Shina Omolola, blamed their loss on home advantage of the host.

"We lost due to the home advantage of the team host, even the 10 minutes penalty given to them was factor for our loss, not that they were good than as we possess more than them. Even low fitness of the team, also facilitate part of our loss to the home team"

However, he urged his mates to put in more effort next time.

This will be the second time both sides will be meting with Laspotech winning both- 5-0 at the first meeting in the All Lagos States Tertiary Institution games, organised by the then governor of Lagos state, Babatun Raji Fashola and then the recently convocation novelty game which ended 2-0.
