Unlike the Eagles of Nigeria, the Eagles of Mali will feature in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, after gathering 10 points from their first four matches of the qualification series, in a Group C that also has Equatorial Guinea, Benin Republic and South Sudan.
