CAF Mourns Patrick Ekeng

Confédération Africaine de Football president, Issa Hayatou, has sympathized with the family of Cameroon international, Patrice Ekeng Ekeng, who slummed and died on Friday night while in action for his Romanian club, Dinamo Bucuresti.

The 26-year old defensive midfielder was introduced to his side's game on Friday, May 6, 2016 against Viitorul Constanta in the 63rd minute of the game, and without having any contact, fell to the ground in the 70th minute.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic immediately but unfortunately, he didn't make it through to the hospital, as his team's doctor said all efforts to resuscitate him for almost 90 minutes failed.

"It is extremely difficult to find words to understand such a brutal tragedy" the CAF President remarked after the latest drama to hit African football.

Ekeng, 26, was in the squad for the final tournament of the Orange AFCON 2015 in Equatorial Guinea. In 2009, he was a member of the Cameroon U-20 team that lost to Ghana in the final of the U-20 AFCON in Rwanda, and went on to play at the FIFA U-20 World Cup later the same year in Egypt.
