ITTF Clears Three Russian Table Tennis Players

Three Russian Table Tennis players have been cleared by the International Table Tennis Federation to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.

These are the Russian players the ITTF has cleared for the Games in Brazil; Polina MIKHAILOVA, Maria DOLGIKH and Alexander SHIBAEV

The ITTF decided to allow the three Russian players that qualified for the tournament participate in Brazil after carrying out a test analysis of these players outside the Russian anti-doping system, which was confirmed by the World Anti-Doping Agency, certifying that the players under scrutiny were not implicated in the McLaren findings released on 18 July 2016.

The Table Tennis federation also disclosed that they have confidence in the evidence provided, saying
that it meets the requirements of the IOC and confirms the eligibility for the athletes.

Meanwhile, the ITTF has assured that it will not delay in conducting further investigation if any doping matter arises from these three certified players, while they sanction them within the framework of the World Anti-Doping Code and the ITTF’s applicable regulations.

The ITTF will continue to take doping issues very seriously and do everything in its power to ensure that table tennis stays clean, not just at the Olympic Games, but in all levels of table tennis.

The Olympic table tennis event runs between 6-17 August at Riocentro Pavilion 3.
