Champions League: Real Madrid and FC Porto progress to the quarter final

Real Madrid escaped Shalke 04's Scare as they go through to the quafter finals of champions league despite losing 3-4 at the Bernabau on Tuesday night.

The Carlo Ancelotti's men had an advantage before the game courtesy of their 2-0 victory in Germany in mid February.

But Madrid almost squandered that opportunity, just the way they gave Barcelona the leadership mantle over the weekend by losing to the Roberto Do Matteo's men in frmy of their home fans.

Christian Fuchs gave the visitors the lead in the 20th minute of the game but his goal waa cancelled Cristiano Ronaldo.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar again put the German side up with a superb finish in the 40th minute in the game and Ronaldo, again showed the reason why he won the world footballer of the year in January with a 45th minute finish.

France striker, Karim Benzema put the European champions forward in the game for the first time in the 53rd minute, but his goal was cancelled in the 57th minute before the Dutch forward, Huntelaar sealed the victory for the Germans but, their efforts were not enough to push them through to the next stage of the tournament.

Meanwhile Fc Porto spanked Basel 4-0 in Portugal.

One goal in the first half and three in the second half ensured that the Portuguese side progressed with little or no contention after the first leg ended 1-1 to progress on a 5-1 aggregate.
