Manchester City returned to the English Premiership with a bang after a disappointing champions league exit during the week.
The Manuel Pellegrini-men defeated a 10-man West Bromwich Albion 3-0 in the week 30 game to cut Chelsea's lead to three points pending their game against Hull City on Sunday evening.
Wilfried Bony gave the EPL champions the lead in the 27th minute, while Fernando doubled their lead five minutes before half time, all these came after West Brom's Gareth McAuley was sent out for a tackle on a City player.
David Silva sealed the the victory for the Noisy Neighbours in the 77th minute, and City have closed the gap between them and the league leaders momentarily.
Olivier Giroud's double sank Newcastle United at the 50,000 capacity St. James' park to remain third on the league table with just one point behind second place City, who spanked West 3-0 in the game.
Giroud stuck twice within four minutes to help the Arsene Wenger side keep tabs on Chelsea and City, who are the top two on the log at the moment.
At other centres, Harry Kane jumped over Chelsea's Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero to become the premiership top scorer following his Hatrick against Leicester City.
Kane inspired the seventh place Tottenham Hotspur get pass Leicester in a seven-goal thriller at the White Hart Lane on Saturday evening, same point as Southampton, and one behind Liverpool, who will square up against Manchester United.
Southampton, West Ham United and Crystal Palace were the remaining premiership team that claimed all the three points in their games today.
